Perks of Staying in a Smaller Disney Resort

While staying in the bigger more well known Disney Resorts does have its advantages, we’ve found that staying at some of the smaller properties is more rewarding for many reasons...
  1. Lower crowds to deal with
Beginning with the obvious, the smaller resorts only have about one or two hundred rooms compared to the thousands most of the other resorts hold. This makes it easier to get around from place to place and faster as well!
  1. Lower prices on rooms
All the smaller resorts not only have less crowds, but lower prices as well. Staying in say Disney’s Old Key West may cost your family less than $100 a night vs a higher populated resorts such as Disney’s Beach Club Resort where guests pay closer to $200 a night. These smaller resorts are not only cheaper but every bit as kept up and pristine as the biggest resorts on Disney Property.
  1. Fewer bus stops
Because of the lower room count guests can board and disembark their desired location’s bus much quicker. No more waiting for several busses to come and go before you’re on your way during peak times! In addition to not waiting for several busses, your family also doesn’t have to sit through several bus stops before making it close to your room’s building. That’s right, just walk to the lobby board your bus from the single bus stop, and when your day is over, take the bus back to that very same stop in front of the lobby. All lobbies and bus stops are in very close walking proximity to your family’s hotel room.
  1. Better for wheelchairs/ strollers
Have small children that require a stroller or have a member of your family that is walking impaired? Smaller resorts are the way to go! With all the rooms being very close to the central lobby AND the bus stops, you and your family won’t have to worry about wheeling a chair or stroller all over.

***For members of your family requiring a wheelchair or scooter, call your resort and ask to be upgraded to a “preferred guest”. This will get you a room even closer to the lobby and bus stop for a very small fee. (this tip goes for resorts both big and small!!)***

TopThree Smaller Resorts:

This adorable tribute to the French influences on New Orleans themed resort is my family’s personal favorite when it comes time to booking our trips. The resort features a main lobby with several surrounding buildings that house all the actual hotel rooms. This resort is closest to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. For big shoppers, Disney Springs is also very close to this resort and can be reached by water taxi as well as a bus. For parks that are further away such as Magic and Animal Kingdom, it is super easy to catch a bus at the stop right outside the lobby.

French Quarter’s other half, located just next door, is a very pretty tribute to New Orleans heritage. Riverside has a bit higher room count than its brother, but the layout is basically the same with one central lobby and several unconnected buildings with the hotel rooms. This resort houses just one bus stop right near the lobby and like French Quarter is located closest to Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Disney Springs. The biggest difference in Riverside and French Quarter is that almost all the rooms at Riverside face the river that runs through that area.

This resort is the smallest on Disney property. Like the others, it too has a central lobby with several buildings surrounding it. This complex has a quaint theme of small town coast livin’, complete with small bungalows and a diner at the front of the property. The one bus stop takes you to your day’s activities with the closest parks being once again Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Disney Springs, also being very close to this resort, can not only be reached by bus but also water taxi.
